landfill  volume  is  needed.  Through  the  incineration  of
           96,000  metric  tons  of  household  waste  per  year,  around
           169,000 metric tons of carbon-dioxide equivalent can be
           avoided. The remaining slag is non-hazardous and can be
           deposited  in  a  landfill.  Compared  with  landfilling  waste
           without thermal treatment, only around one-eighth of the
           volume  is  required.  Since  its  commissioning  in  2004,
           already over one million metric tons of residual waste have
           been thermally recycled at the plant in Arnoldstein.

           Significant  environmental  risks  include  the  impact  on
           habitats and biodiversity, the production of emissions and
           the  choice  of  energy  sources.  By  developing  energy-
           efficient products and services as well as producing energy
           from water, wind, biomass and other renewable sources,
           KELAG actively contributes to climate protection and the
           reduction of CO2 emissions.
